At its core, Oratium is a team of communicators who’ve learned through hard thinking and doing that there’s a better approach to improving communications than focusing on the superficial issues of eye contact and body language.

Instead, we’re passionate about helping others to understand and embody world-class communication, by using the principles and processes incorporated in the Oratium training.

Tim Pollard is the founder and CEO of Oratium and the author of The Compelling Communicator: Mastering the Art and Science of Exceptional Presentation Design.

Throughout the course of designing and delivering approximately 2000 complex presentations to boards, national conferences and executive committees, Tim never stopped seeking to understand and capture the underlying “science” of extraordinary communication. The result of this journey has been the development of unique tools and concepts, and a remarkable ability to teach and coach others in the learnable processes of exceptional communications.

As a result, Tim is one of the world’s leading thinkers on advanced communication skills, particularly in the fields of executive communications, sales messaging and donor messaging.

Not only is Tim a highly sought-after speaker in the communications field, but the thinking that he has developed at Oratium has been translated into a set of unique tools, which allow any individual or organization to see a renaissance in its executive, sales or donor communications.

Tim and his wife Ruth are British by birth, but now reside in Montana where they’re raising their four kids – 2 in college and 2 in high school. Tim is passionate about his fly fishing, his community, his church, and his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon…which might actually allow him to walk more than 100 yards without crying like a baby.

Eli Murphy is Oratium’s Senior Vice President, responsible for the non-profit sector.team-eli

For the last 20 years, Eli has taught, coached, mentored, presented, and managed communicators from all walks of life. His communication experience spans corporate Sales, Marketing and Operations, as well as cancer research, neuroscience and entrepreneurship. Throughout it all he’s learned a key lesson: few things are more powerful than the right idea, shared in the right format, with the right people.

Whether with Senior Executives, Non-Profit Development Professionals, Corporate Trainers or TEDx Speakers, Eli is dedicated to using communication to drive change in the world.

Known for his warm and welcoming personality, Eli spends the rest of his time exploring the wines of California, seeking sun where he can, and celebrating his recent wedding in his hometown of Washington DC.

Jonathan Dietrich (please call him “JD”) is Managing Director, Executive Communications Coaching.

JD works primarily with companies and business executives to improve their communication skills across a wide range of industries and business functions – including Sales, Strategy, Market Insights and Internal Communications, as well as TED speaker coaching. To span such a diverse terrain JD focuses on becoming a student of the client’s business and their key outcomes in order to best advise them how to apply Oratium’s doctrine to achieve their desired results.

With 15 years experience advising Fortune 500 companies globally – including a 3 year stint in Sydney, Australia working with Asia Pacific organizations – JD brings the balance of business savvy and youthful passion to all of his client engagements.

The most critical of those engagements is with his wife, Jennifer, who is a communications consultant and a total Oratium convert. They live in Washington DC but enjoy life well travelled. Adventure, both personal and professional, are often just a plane ride away. Just the way they like it.

Mark Bourgeois is Senior Vice President at Oratium.

Mark is passionate about language, writing and golf. He has worked at Booz-Allen, CEB Global and DebtX in a variety of capacities, where he designed and delivered nearly 1,000 complex business presentations.

A husband and father of three, Mark’s current obsession is understanding how it is possible that Las Vegas consumes 60,000 pounds of shrimp per day (more than rest of country combined).

Jerry Wall is Oratium’s Chief Operating Officer.

With 15 years’ experience in the non-profit world, Jerry has delivered hundreds of presentations, as well as trained thousands of board members, staff and volunteers in smaller group settings.

Today his chief role as COO is to quarterback all client operations, ensuring that complex projects seem simple and run smoothly.

In addition to his COO duties, Jerry also oversees the design and delivery of our specialized training for pastors who are looking to refresh and upgrade their communication skills.

Sean J. Bliznik is Managing Director of Brand and Executive Communication for Oratium.

Sean has over 20 years of experience as an educator and an operator of world-class live entertainment. Sean’s career began as a high school English teacher, with an ongoing passion for live theatre. Sean holds an M.A. in Theatre from the University of Central Florida and a Ph.D. in Theatre (specializing in theatre for young audiences) from Arizona State University.

For the last 15 years, Sean could be found at Walt Disney World leading entertainment teams on land and aboard Disney Cruise Line. Sean also led the curriculum design efforts for the Disney Institute, focused on developing insight-based teaching methodologies for clients around the world.

As the newest member of the Oratium team, Sean looks forward to sharing his passion for exceptional communication.

With over 30 years experience in all facets of sales messaging, Drew works to help companies apply Oratium communication principles to specific messages — resulting in messaging that is far more impactful, engaging and effective.

Drew recently retired from Mellon Financial Corporation, where he was Executive Vice President and Head of Global Sales and Marketing, reporting to the CEO.

A husband and father of two, Drew is a graduate of Yale University and received his MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.

Tamsen Webster leads Oratium’s Keynote Development & Coaching practice.

Tamsen heads Oratium’s one-on-one coaching practice, equipping a diverse group of professionals to convey their ideas with clarity and resonance. She works with individuals and organizations to recognize, and powerfully articulate, what differentiates them in the marketplace — fostering deeper engagement with key audiences, and driving business results.

Tamsen is also the Executive Producer for TEDxCambridge, where she selects and coaches each roster of presenters, and emcees their yearly live events.

As a retired Weight Watchers leader and newly minted marathoner, Tamsen is passionate about the power of transformative journeys—and her delightful other half and two bright, curious little boys provide her with great company (and laughter) through each one.

WHAT WE DO WITH OUR PROFITS

This is an interesting question. In addition to being passionate about what we do, we’re passionate about doing the right thing with what we earn.

Sure, we pay ourselves a salary and we reinvest in our product. But we direct a portion of our earnings toward two organizations making a real difference in the world: the Tumbleweed program for homeless youth (www.tumbleweedprogram.org), and the CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center (www.candlesholocaustmuseum.org).

Tumbleweed is a non-profit, community-based agency that provides services to runaway and homeless at-risk youths and their families. They focus on emergency shelter for youth and counseling for families, with the goal of reuniting runaway or homeless youth with their parents or legal guardians.

CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center is dedicated to the memory of the victims and survivors of medical experimentation at Auschwitz, seeking to educate the world and prevent similar atrocities.

By working to prevent genocide on a global level and transform prejudice on a local level, CANDLES aims to create a world free from hatred and genocide.
