There is no disputing the importance of communication skills in the context of executive effectiveness. It is critical for leaders to be able to present their ideas and initiatives in a powerful and compelling way, and to gain backing for those ideas, whether from the team, the board or the customer. For a leader to be effective they have to be able to influence others. Hence, communication effectiveness is closely related to executive effectiveness.
However, most executives still struggle to craft messaging that is truly compelling and impactful. We want to impact our audience, but somehow all those bad habit seem to creep back in and we present bland and uninspiring materials leaving our hearers unmoved – and more importantly, unmotivated to act.
The Answers We’ve Tried Haven’t Worked
Of course, most companies recognize this problem, and have deployed training to address this important skill gap. Unfortunately, this is where a second problem presents itself. While it certainly makes sense to invest in solving this problem, traditional training solutions typically focus heavily on the trivia of eye contact and body language, squarely hitting the bullseye on the wrong target. Eye contact and body language aren’t the real problem… so training takes place, but nothing really improves.
Here’s the Answer
The Oratium solution works because we set aside decades of conventional wisdom and begin with a different premise: the key to communication is the human brain. If we understand how the brain processes information, we can craft communication that aligns with that – becoming deeply impactful, memorable, and likely to lead to action.
This understanding of the brain has been crystallized into a process for communication design containing six essential steps and an associated tool each. It is highly learnable and allows executives to very quickly develop a new skill set.
A Range of Learning Options
Companies can choose to engage Oratium in many different ways: from a critical keynote address to a range of live workshop options – from the half-day overview with an introduction to the tools… all the way through a full two-day experiential learning approach, with deep exposure to and practice with the tools… or through e-learning.
At a high level there are four things you can do: bring us in for live training, attend a public class, or get trained through e-learning or receive coaching on an upcoming presentation.
Many companies bring Oratium onsite to equip executives, sales teams in a wide variety of settings. Many companies also choose to embed Oratium within a broader leadership program (i.e. leadership “academy”).
Experience Oratium training in a public setting with attendees from multiple organizations present, held in various cities in the U.S. and around the world. A great way to equip a small number of people, or to experience an Oratium workshop for the first time.
For several reasons live training is not the most practical or viable option for individuals, small companies, or geographically distributed teams. E-learning is a wonderful way of recreating the Oratium experience in a dynamic self-paced, self-study environment.
